Job Fairs Provide Opportunities
WorkSource October Fair a Success. Preparations Being Made for January Fair.

WorkSource has the only known Career Center in Texas located on a community college campus. WorkSource job fairs are efficient and effective ways to make rewarding connections:
•  Job seekers can get face to face time with dozens of employers in one day.
•  Employers can screen hundreds of eager potential employees at one time.

The WorkSource – Career Center will host the next job fair on January 30, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Community Service Award

A representative from H-E-B discusses job opportunities with a local resident. On September 27, 2006, Walter Moreau, Foundation Communities Executive Director and Janice Foulk, Internal Revenue Service Relationship Manager presented WorkSource with a Community Service Award. Sally Foster, WorkSource Board Chair, received the award on WorkSource's behalf.

Rock Solid Support for Local Hurricane Evacuees

The Community Tax Centers helped bring millions of dollars to Central Texas. Though over a year has passed since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, WorkSource continues working to assist those who were displaced.

On Saturday, September 9, 2006 the Austin Area Urban League (AAUL) held a job and health fair for evacuees of the 2005 hurricanes and WorkSource – Career Center staff was there.

E-learning @ WorkSource
WorkSource Helps Businesses Build Employee Job Skills

E-learning @ WorkSource is a web-based training program offered through WorkSource - Greater Austin Area Workforce Board. This program has a component that helps eligible businesses upgrade the job skills of current workers.

Unemployment Rate Remains Unchanged

According to the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), the unemployment rate for the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area* (MSA) remained unchanged between October 2006 and November 2006 at 3.7 percent.

Career Center Visits for November 2006
The three WorkSource – Career Centers received 32,037 customer visits in November 2006 or an average of 1,602 visits per day. Customer visits for each center are:
 
·      North (6505 Airport Boulevard) = 11,131
·      South (4175 Freidrich Lane) = 11,200
·      East (3401 Webberville Road) = 9,706
 
There were 43,015 recorded customer visits to the Career Centers in October 2006.
 
The customer visits are tracked by electronic counters on the Career Center doors and count all visits, not just unique visitors.
